Pellet Burning Colorado Springs Fireplace Inserts—Heating Your Home with Renewable Resources
If your traditional open-air fireplace represents the past, the pellet-burning fireplace inserts offered by Fireplace Warehouse ETC, represent the clean burning future.
Pellets are Biomass – But Not Always Wood
Though the common parlance is “wood pellets,” this is something of a misnomer. These pellets are compressed sawdust and not virgin wood processed into pellets. These pellets are typically made from wood processing byproducts that might otherwise go to waste.
Pellets are also routinely made with a percentage of added agricultural waste such as the parts of the corn plant, as well as other biomass. One of the pellet burning fireplace inserts we sell is rated to only burn wood pellets. Another will also burn properly dried corn plant pellets, while yet a third is “multi fuel” capable, being able to also burn wheat, barley, and compressed grass pellets.
Burning these compressed and dried pellets of any composition results in a more complete burn than is available using seasoned cord wood. Pellet burning fireplace inserts realize an average five to eight percent burn efficiency gain over the comparable wood burning fireplace inserts available. These pellets also reduce to less ash, (a 40lb. bag reduces to just 3oz. of ash), and creosote, so cleaning intervals are longer and less labor intensive too.
To get an idea of the costs of the pellet fuel, a ton of high quality pellets, (50 bags @ 40lbs. each), is the energy potential equivalent of a cord and one half of firewood.
Hopper Fed Convenience
Unlike a wood burning fireplace insert, you don’t have to continually tend the fire in a pellet burner. Most pellet burning fireplace inserts are fed from a hopper, which automatically sends in fresh pellets into the combustion bowl over time. Some hopper configurations have the capacity to feed your fire for between one and two days without bulk replenishment.
Accessories Galore
Pellet burning fireplace inserts are among the most flexible products we carry at Fireplace Warehouse ETC. They can be configured with or without blowers. All are capable of being equipped with optional thermostatic controls, but none of the stoves we sell require them for basic functionality.
Some of the Colorado Springs fireplace inserts we sell will even allow you to mimic an actual wood fire through the use of ceramic log inserts that disguise the fact that your pellets are efficiently burning in a combustion chamber behind those logs. We carry Town and Country fireplaces, Regency fireplaces and much more.
